What is Web Developement Project
When starting a web development project, it is a good idea to plan everything out before you start developing. The goal of web development project is to transfer of static and dynamic content to the various types of interfaces. New web developers like to jump in and start making a new website before brainstorming or doing any type of planning.
Why not? That is the fun part. But when doing it this way, you will find yourself changing things back and forth and trying different ideas which may stifle your progress. You don’t really know what the finished product is going to look like. You end up wasting a lot of time and if you’re on a job or working for someone else, wasting a lot of money.
That’s why it’s important when deciding on a web development project to do some brainstorming techniques that will help you get some fresh ideas out and get to where you’re going.
Find Your Project Theme, Service or Product
Most web developers when starting a web development project know what theme, service or products they will be developing for. Sometimes you might not have all the information need or desired. Some brainstorming techniques can help you.
Instead of trying to think of something while staring at your wall, try to write it down. Start writing simple words that you are interested in. When you have brainstormed about 10 different topics down on your sheet of paper, label them 1 through to 10. Making 1 be your most interested topic and 10 to your least favorite topic.
Get Something You Are Interested In
Label your brainstorming ideas into different categories, number them 1-10. Get rid of 6-10. You might wonder why…but if they are below your top 5 there is a chance that you might get bored with them. If you think you are going to get bored with one of your topics, Don’t Do It.
If you get bored with your topic, then you website is going to suffer. You website will be more successful and you’ll be more willing to put your time into something you’re interested in.
Your Favourite 5
Now you have your Favourite 5 categories, you can start breaking your favourite 5 categories down into Sub-Categories. Such as:
If your top category is Guitar. So what Sub-Categories can go with Guitar?
Well there is Playing Guitar, Types of Guitars, Guitar Brands, Guitar Chords, Guitar Scales and even Guitar Hero, Easy Right.
Doing this with all 5 categories you will find that there is more Sub-Categories to your topics than you thought. This brainstorming technique can also open niches to your categories. You might find yourself wanting to do one of your category niches instead of the category. This is perfectly fine.
Your Sub-Categories / Niches
Finding multiple Sub-Categories or Niches for you website is important. You always want to think how your website can expand. You don’t need to do all Sub-Categories off the bat. Take your time in making your website. It is more important to have solid high valued content, then a lot of content.
With more Sub-Categories gives you the options to do both. Start with sub-category, build that to something great and then start with something else.
You should now have a good idea on what type of website you want. This is just some brainstorming techniques that have been used. There are plenty more or you might have some. Hopefully this helped you get some categories. There might still be a tie between a few, but you’ll make the right decision.
If you have two categories and can’t make up your mind, there is no rule that you can’t do both. Going through a brainstorming session and then through Website Story-boarding, you’ll be ready to make a successful website.
